Alameda Avenue Residence

Gail Barry, principal landscape architect

Land Mark Design, worked closely with the architect and the client on this new home.  The architecture was in the modernist style but the client preferred lots of details that were not necessarily in the modernist vein.  The client loves art and has placed works of art throughout the gardens.  Many walls and steps were designed and constructed to create useable spaces on the steeply sloping site.  Nearly full size trees were craned over the building onto the slopes above to replace trees that were removed during construction. Specially selected natural stone and curvilinear lines were used to blend the walls to the natural contours. Plant materials were selected to provide privacy, texture, contrast, color and a “little surprise” around every corner. Gail also designed the front walks, drive and parking area for this client.
